What is your vision for MediaEquals?

We aim to provide a central media platform that provides all media buyers and media sellers, of all media, for all markets with a central hub to connect, transact and trade media more efficiently.

Why is now the right time to use MediaEquals
  • Firstly, the number of media owners has exploded in all markets and all sectors in recent years. This makes it increasingly difficult for buyers to know what is available and for sellers to have one-to-one contact with the buyers that matter.
  • Transaction administration and costs of buying and selling media are too high. Too much time is spent cold calling or fielding cold calls, administering deals agreed on the phone and trying to reconcile information from multiple systems that simply are not able to talk to each other.
  • There is a lack of liquidity. We have all seen the many billboards around town still promoting yesterday’s shows or films. That billboard has not been resold for the sole reason that the advertiser, who would pay good money for it, simply cannot be reached or serviced efficiently.

What type of media can I buy and sell on MediaEquals?

Our goal is to be the home of all media. Our technology has been developed to both hold and classify everything the market wants to buy and sell across all media categories. For our launch, national press and consumer press were a natural starting point for all their display media, both print and online. This enables buyers for the first time to buy cross media deals on one trading platform.

Regional media and broadcast (radio and TV) will be available in 2011.

Why book online? Why shouldn't I just pick up the phone?

You should, and more often! The time you save transacting your media bookings on MediaEquals enables your sales team to have more face-to-face and phone time with your clients. Not only that, you should use that conversation to generate real value for your business and customer relationships.

Too often, the opportunity to do any of this is lost when two organisations get bogged down with changing or administering what was agreed. The transaction element of the deal is the easiest element to automate, which is what MediaEquals is able to do for everyone.

In the current climate, every penny counts and we are not looking to minimise the importance of firm negotiation in each transaction. However, we believe that by taking a proportion of the haggling online via a live trading system, more effective, positive and profitable relationships can be developed.

How do you charge for your service?

ePROFESSIONAL , The Press Book, eDIRECT

  • All these services are free for direct buyers and agency buyers to use.
  • Media owners pay:
    • A small initial set up fee
    • A low minimum monthly transaction fee per company
    • 1%-0.35% transaction fees, depending on volume
    • 5% - 10% sales commission for new sales we generate, depending on volume (eDirect).

eENTERPRISE

  • We charge customers £5,000 for a two day eTrading health check:
    • Mapping your workflows.
    • Identifying savings you can make.
    • Creating alignment across your commercial, technical and back office functions.
  • Any further consultancy work or bespoke technical development work is charged out on a day rates basis. Some discounts may be available depending on the size.
  • eProfessional, eDirect or The Press Book service is then charged ongoing.
Won't trading online ultimately commoditise space?

In the current trading environment the price is dominating almost every conversation. MediaEquals actually de-commoditise the sell by freeing up more time for media owners and buyers enabling them to focus on what’s really important – adding more value to your clients needs.

Where relationships are critical to a sale, MediaEquals will improve your performance. Whilst the booking element of the conversation is transacted electronically, the verbal or face-to-face element can focus on brands, markets, consumers, competition and the future – in short, a far more positive sell.

How will you handle net v gross charges?

We are a facilitator, so the trading relationships between buyers and sellers will remain as they are currently. We therefore assume that either the existing arrangements on 'gross verses net' continue, or are varied by mutual agreement.

This also means that any deals that override the prices struck would apply unless varied by agreement - we do not want to detract from, or even participate in, any special commercial arrangements you may have.

Will extra admin be required to process the deals?

No. MediaEquals significantly reduces the administration traditionally associated with media bookings. We do this by integrating with your existing booking and workflow IT systems to ensure there is no duplication of data entry. Agreed bookings feed directly into DDS or its equivalent.

For media owners, seamless integration with your order processing systems saves dual entry and frees up time, if you are double entering bookings now or have manual inventory checks then we can save you a lot of time, effort and errors.

MediaEquals is the one-stop-shop – all your current activity including trades, completed deals or options and offers that are outstanding are all available in a completely secure environment that can be accessed only by you. All your information is held in one place, no scraps of paper or hastily scribbled notes wedged in your daybook.

Change requests and order cancelations are some of the most expensive admin most companies have to deal with. Within the rules set down by a media owner, a booking can be modified with a few mouse clicks.

An electronic 'paper-trail' is permanently stored against every trade, making queries much easier to resolve and changes to bookings already done, much easier to process.

How do I join?

Registration is free, easy and open to all media owners and all media buyers, both large and small.

Simply click here to register. This will take you to a short form to complete.

Our account team will then call you to confirm registration details and set up a super user 'Champion' to manage any other members of your company. This will also be a good opportunity for you to chat through any questions you may have, and enable us to understand any additional help and support you and your company may need to get the most out of the system.

If you are selling media you can add your media for sale either line by line, or via our bulk uploader service - the quickest way to upload a lot of content in one go. Our technical team will also be able to assist you to set up a live XML feed on the site that you can update in real time based on inventory you have available.
